The party also elected Anoama’a West MP Fonotoe Nuafesili Pierre Lauofo as party deputy leader vis-à-vis Deputy Prime Minister.

“Fonotoe is a lawyer by profession and prior to entering politics ran his own law firm,” said Prime Minister Tuilaepa.

“It’s his second term in office and has been serving as chairman of Parliament’s Bills Committee. He comes in as a very capable person taking over his role.”

The Deputy Prime Minister’s role, Tuilaepa described, is to take over in an acting capacity when the Prime Minister is overseas.

“Samoa is a member of the Pacific Islands Forum, the Commonwealth, the African- Caribbean-Pacific (ACP) group, the United Nations among other regional and global fora, and, the Deputy Prime Minister takes over the reins of government when I am away at these overseas meetings.”

The caucus, also during yesterday’s meeting, elected Gagaifomauga No. III MP, La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi as Speaker-of-the-House for this parliamentary term. Newcomer MP Agafili Patisela Eteuati Tuitolovaa of Palauli-i-Sisifo was elected Deputy Speaker.

“La'aulialemalietoa was Deputy Speaker in the last five-year-term,” said Prime Minister Tuilaepa. “He is able and has proven himself capable of taking over the Speaker's role.”

The Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker as well as the elected Members of the XV Parliament will be sworn in this Friday, 18th March 2011.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi will also formally announce his Cabinet during this Friday’s maiden session of Parliament.
